My interest in astronomy began early, fueled with a 6″ Edmund Scientific Newtonian reflector telescope, the cheap eyepieces that came with it, and the relatively dark skies of the 60’s, even in a suburb of NYC. We could see the Milky Way from our backyards, and M13, the great globular cluster in Hercules, was easily visible with the naked eye.

Fast forward 50 years, and while our telescopes still work with lenses and mirrors, our eyes have been supplemented with sensitive digital cameras that take pictures beyond the wildest dreams of our youth.

Our skies are filled with light pollution, but with filters and digital processing to recapture the signal from the noise, we can capture images from the sky that fill us with wonder.
